If the site of infection is known—as in pneumonia, for example—and your temperature and white blood cell count is normal, antibiotics will be continued for one to two weeks.
If blood tests have isolated the organism, your fever is gone and the white count is back to normal, antibiotics will usually be stopped five to seven days after the fever disappears.
